At this outset, we would like to share some real life incidences and facts which have driven us to identify
a grave issue ie. the issue of financial inclusion and sharing of financial information with family.
A lady lost her husband in a bike accident within few years of her marriage. Her husband had never
shared details of his income, salary, investments, shares, loans, etc with her. Even his bank account did
not have a nominee. Given that all his financial details were lost with him, she had to fight a lone battle
for survival against insurance and banking companies.
An American lady after her divorce realized that her husband had managed all her finances as a result of
which she had no knowledge of her investments.
Many such published stories convey a common cause of concern - Absence of financial inclusion
internally amongst family members; spanning across geographical boundaries, cultures, demographics.
It bothers us to see, in midst of all the legal hassles we’re busy sorting our paperwork and checking
nominations; we realize there is no time to mourn and grieve for the person with whom you have spent
the best years of your life.
There are huge unclaimed amounts of policyholders lying with various insurance companies in India. The
approximate unclaimed amount with insurance companies as on June 2017 is around Rs 12,000 crores.
Out of this, the approximate unclaimed amount with Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India as on June
2017 was around Rs 6,000 crores. ie roughly 50%. The figures are a testimony to the fact that the
financial information is not shared with family members as a result of which, the amounts remain
unclaimed in the absence of information. The situation isn’t great in the US either with amounts lying
upto $7.4 billion in unclaimed sections.
In a patriarchal society, the root cause may be a culmination of many issues ranging from cultural,
geographical to personal. Traditionally in India, women have been reluctant to discuss finances with
their husbands and have left the financial decisions to their husbands which has partly led to this
situation.

information ie. bank accounts, mutual funds, life & health insurance, provident fund, shares and stocks,
property, loans etc. The entire financial eco-system to manage on a button’s click for you and your
family.
